To import  .fbx file and get 3D characters, you just import .fbx files modeling #3D Max to unity editor.

When using the objects, you drag and drop on Hierarchy view.

If the Objects have to move physically and collide during gameplay,  you must  attach rigidbody and collider components.

add component: Component > Physics > RigidBody

Control of an object's position through physics simulation

Adding component : Component > Physics > RigidBody

 

Collider

To use Physics Engine in Unity, it is a basic type and is green line that surrounds object outside.

Physical actions are occurred form of collider, instead of being an object.

Adding collider: Component > Physics > **** Collider
